THE CHURCH OF GOD EVANGELICALThe Church of God was established in 1979 by missionary/evangelist Neville N Tan who was introduced to the movement by Rev. Sidney M. Johnson from Anderson Indiana. Rev Johnson was then stationed in Bangkok as the regional director for Asia. He was a frequent visitor to Singapore in the late seventies as a requirement for his stay in Thailand to renew his visa. He was introduced to Neville by Dr G. D. James of Asia Evangelistic Fellowship (AEF). After several visits, fellowship and discussion Neville became interested in the Church of God Movement. Neville discovered that the Church of God is a "Movement of God's People" who identified themselves with the church of God that was spoken of in the New Testament and especially in Paul's letters to the church he had started in Asia. He referred to them as the Church of God in Philippi or Ephesus or Galatia. In mid-79, Neville was invited to Anderson, Indiana to the Centennial Celebrations of the church of God. There he met and fellowshipped with other Asian Church of God leaders and they further strengthen and clarified his understanding of the Church of God Movement. On his return to Singapore, on Sunday August 5th 1979, Neville and Anne Tan inaugurated the first Church of God congregation in Singapore. |

Directions to Church of God (Evangelical) By bus take numbers 10, 12 or 14. By MRT. Alight at Tanah Merah Station. Alight and exit by the left exit and walk EAST towards Changi Airport about 250 meters to traffic lights and turn RIGHT about 100 meters to the church or exit the MRT by the Right exit to board bus No 14 (only one stop) to Church. |
